We stayed two nights at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur in the Caroline Astor Suite, booked using a combination of Marriott Bonvoy points for the first night and Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts for the second. This is honestly the hotel where we received the most handwritten cards and gifts of any stay we've ever done, and since it was also my birthday, the surprises never stopped.

Location
The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur is one of the most acclaimed hotels in the city, holding a Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star rating for 2026 and named Hotel of the Year and Best City Hotel by Tatler Malaysia. It sits in KL's Central Business District, a different area from the Golden Triangle where our other KL hotel reviews were based, but don't let that put you off on location.
The hotel is right next to KL Sentral, a major train hub, and covered walkways with St. Regis signage take you most of the way there. There's also the Muzium Negara MRT station on the Kajang line, a short walk away with an entrance facing the National Museum. If you're flying in, the KLIA Ekspres airport train stops directly at KL Sentral, so you can get from the airport to the hotel in about 33 minutes. Transit-wise, this hotel is very well situated.

Booking with Marriott Points & Amex FHR
Our two nights were booked separately. The first night used Marriott Bonvoy points, and the second used Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts for a room category just below the Caroline Astor Suite, which came out to $423 for an executive suite corner room. At check-in, we asked if we could stay in the Caroline Astor Suite for both nights instead, and the team happily obliged. On top of that, they offered us complimentary breakfast for the first night as well, since it normally wasn't included in that booking. A great start to the stay.
First Impressions & Welcome
Walking in, this is genuinely the grandest hotel we've ever stayed at. We were offered a refreshing welcome drink while checking in, and were even given two complimentary drinks to enjoy at the pool.
Room Tour: Caroline Astor Suite
Our suite was room 906, and it's massive; when we first walked in we thought we were already in the biggest suite the hotel offered, but this was actually the Caroline Astor Suite itself. The floor guide near the elevator gives a good sense of just how large this layout is.
Room location and layout
Powder room: Right when you enter, there's a powder room finished entirely in marble, with a soap selection from the Ren brand.
Living room: A full living and working area with an international outlet and a regular outlet at the desk, plus a menu for the in-house Japanese restaurant and in-room dining options. They even provide paper and an envelope for stationery, something we've only seen before at Four Seasons properties.
The iconic trunk minibar: The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur's signature trunk, available for purchase starting at 180 ringgit, doubles as the minibar in the suite. It holds water and a kettle. It's not an espresso or Keurig machine, but that's because the hotel provides a butler coffee and tea service 24 hours a day on request, so you don't really need it. You can also order tea and hot chocolate through the butler. The fridge is stocked with drinks and snacks that are not complimentary; a Coca-Cola runs 16 ringgit.

View: The Caroline Astor Suite faces the Perdana Botanical Garden, also known as the Lake Garden, as well as the National Museum, giving a very green, peaceful outlook rather than a skyline view.
Sofa area and TV: A massive sofa with a large TV that streams Netflix, YouTube, Prime, and more directly, no casting required.
Bedroom: A king bed with a second TV, plus button controls for the lights, sheers, and curtains that feel a little old school but work perfectly. International outlets sit on both nightstands, with one side adding an alarm clock. AC goes as low as 15Β°C.
Walk-in closet: A full closet with vanity lighting for makeup and plenty of space to store luggage and clothes. It comes with a Rimowa-style back smart bag, a St. Regis shopping bag, four complimentary pressings per day, and complimentary shoe shine through the butler service. There's a Philips steamer if you'd rather handle your own clothes, a strong Panasonic hair dryer, and one of the biggest in-room safes we've ever seen.

Standalone massage room: This was the biggest surprise of the entire suite. Behind another door off the closet is a fully separate massage room with its own massage bed and sink, something we've never seen included in a hotel room before. Vincent gave the massage himself, which made this a free bonus.
Bathroom: Everything here is marble too, with a Toto toilet with bidet functions, his and hers sinks, and full amenities including goggle-style eye masks, body lotion, a shaving kit, hairbrush, and toothbrush and toothpaste. Robes are St. Regis branded and genuinely thick. The tub is deep, fits us both a bit snugly, and comes with bath salt, a bar, and a loofah. There's even a mirror across from the tub that switches into a TV.

Handwritten Cards & Birthday Surprises
This is the hotel where we received the most handwritten cards of our entire trip, five in total, and none of them felt generic. The butler team left a birthday card welcoming us to "The House of Astor," the front office manager sent a thank-you note recognizing our Marriott Bonvoy Gold loyalty, and the Chief Butler left a personalized thank-you gift note. The concierge, Fiona, even wrote us a card recommending specific dishes to try at the Chow Kit Night Market after we mentioned we were headed there, and closed out our stay with a farewell note tied to a homemade honey gift.

Since it was my birthday, the team surprised us with two different desserts on top of everything else. The first was a rose-shaped chocolate cake reading "Happy Birthday Christina" in chocolate script.
The second was a "Malaysia in Bloom" bon bon shaped like the bunga raya, Malaysia's national flower, red velvet-look petals over a dark chocolate base.
We also received a "Golden Horizons of Kuala Lumpur" dessert, a sweet tribute to the KL skyline made of layered dark chocolate ganache, chocolate cake, and crispy feuilletine, served as part of the hotel's Visit Malaysia 2026 welcome.
On top of the cakes, we came back one afternoon to a bowl of fresh fruit, more chocolate, and a gift box of dried pineapple and mixed nuts. We genuinely did not need to go out to eat after all of this.
We were also given a custom-engraved microfiber cloth as a Marriott Bonvoy Gold member gift, and near the end of our stay, the butler team surprised us again with homemade honey and traditional onde-onde, since they'd learned how much I loved it.

Turndown Service
Turndown restocked the water and slippers and folded the bed down so we could slide right in. They left all the service information out on the side table instead of tucked away in a drawer, a small but thoughtful touch. Housekeeping only ever turns down one side of the bed since they don't know exactly how many guests are staying, but everything else was fully prepared.

Breakfast & Lunch at The Brasserie
The Brasserie is a Michelin Guide selected restaurant for its fourth consecutive year, and it offers both an Γ la carte menu and an open buffet for breakfast. As soon as we sat down, we were brought fresh juice, an ABC juice and a ginger and carrot "booster shot," a nice touch given how easy it is to get "heaty" while traveling in Malaysia.
The buffet spread is halal, so no pork; the sausage selection is all beef and chicken. The presentation felt like fine dining rather than a standard hotel breakfast, easily one of the best breakfast buffets we've had, ahead of even our Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur stay.

From the Γ la carte menu, we tried the kaya toast with egg, a lobster sandwich, and steak and egg with a perfectly cooked medium-rare steak and a deep orange yolk.

The concierge team also followed up the next morning with a handwritten card recommending specific dishes to try at the Chow Kit Night Market, apam balik, satay, jiang tofu, and mango chow, after we'd mentioned our plans to visit the night before.
For lunch, we used our $100 USD Amex FHR credit at The Brasserie. The standout was the wild mushroom risotto loaded with truffle, alongside a braised wagyu beef short rib, truffle mash potato, and a garden salad.

Astor Bar & The Decanter Room
We didn't get much time at the Astor Bar ourselves since we were out most evenings exploring KL's local food scene, but one of the bar hosts gave us a full private tour of the space, including the Macallan cigar lounge and the exclusive Decanter Room. If you've seen Crazy Rich Asians, this will mean something to you: the Decanter Room is where the iconic scene was filmed of Astrid shopping for a stunning pair of earrings inside an exclusive jewelry boutique.

Shuttle Service
The hotel runs a complimentary shuttle to KL Sentral, and on weekends it also runs to Pavilion Mall. We used the shuttle ourselves, a Toyota Vellfire, and just had to coordinate the ride with the team.

Going over the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts checklist for our stay:
- Noon check-in when available: We arrived at 3pm, so we couldn't fully test this.
- Room upgrade upon arrival when available: We were upgraded from our lower-category executive room booking into the Caroline Astor Suite for both nights, which we'd consider a significant upgrade.
- Daily breakfast for two: Included with the FHR booking. The first night's separate Bonvoy booking didn't originally include breakfast, but the front desk added it complimentary since it was my first stay at a St. Regis and my birthday.
- Complimentary Wi-Fi: Provided, speed tested at 47 Mbps.
- Guaranteed 4pm late checkout: Confirmed and used.
- $100 USD Fine Hotels Experience credit: Around 370 ringgit, which we used toward lunch at The Brasserie. It can also be used at the spa or bar, though some outlets are excluded, so it's worth checking with the hotel on eligible venues.
As Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite members, we also received 500 bonus points for the stay, complimentary late checkout until 2pm, and access to the 24-hour butler service for packing, unpacking, pressing, and in-room coffee or tea.
Final Verdict
Complimentary self-parking is included for one vehicle per room, something we noticed a lot of other hotels don't offer for free. Wi-Fi speed tested at 47 Mbps, solid enough for streaming and work. The butler pressing service covers four pieces of clothing per room per day, and we made sure to use it both nights.
This is our first stay at a St. Regis property, so we can't speak to whether this level of service is standard across the brand, but our stay here was genuinely exceptional. The Caroline Astor Suite alone would have made this a memorable stay, but the standalone massage room, the 24-hour butler tea service, the constant handwritten notes, and the sheer number of thoughtful gifts pushed this into a different category entirely. Housekeeping even proactively restocked our shampoo and conditioner without us asking.
