Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur Review: The Edit by Chase Travel

We stayed two nights at the Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur, a One Michelin Key hotel right next to the Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC Park, booked through The Edit by Chase Travel using our Chase Sapphire Reserve card. This time around we ended up reviewing not one but two rooms, and there's a story behind that.

Location

The Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur is one of the most acclaimed hotels in the city, holding a One Michelin Key award, one of only three hotels in Kuala Lumpur to receive that recognition, alongside The RuMa Hotel and Else Kuala Lumpur. It sits right in the heart of KLCC, steps from Suria KLCC Mall, the Petronas Twin Towers, and KLCC Park at your doorstep. The KLCC LRT station is about a 5 minute walk away, so we could get around the city without needing a Grab every time. Location-wise, this is as central as it gets in KL.

This is actually our second time staying at the Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur. Our first stay was about two years ago using Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts, which got us a suite upgrade; you can read that one in our Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur Junior Suite review. Booking with The Edit by Chase Travel

We originally booked a basic City View room and got upgraded to a Pool Garden View room thanks to The Edit. For two nights the stay would have cost $824, but we used 26,000 Chase points to bring it down to $304. Cards that unlock The Edit's hotel collection, like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, also come with a $250 annual statement credit toward bookings made through it, which made the value here really solid. We arrived and staff helped us bring our bags up to the room, and were greeted at the front desk with a proper first impression.

Before we get to the room tour, we also want to mention Surfshark, something we use on every trip for staying secure on public Wi-Fi and accessing content from back home. It's been super reliable for us.

Room Tour: Pool Garden View

Our first room was room 817, a corner unit on the 8th floor with a one king bed and a pool view. The team prepared a birthday cake and welcome amenities for us, chocolate, macarons, and a handwritten letter, along with Malaysian kueh.

Living area: A nice lounging couch, plus a desk area that felt a little dated, though it came with stationery, envelopes, and a magazine, a nice touch. International outlets, USB-A, and USB-C are available at the desk, along with HDMI for the TV. The TV isn't a full smart TV, no built-in apps, but you can mirror from your phone or laptop.

View: From the window, we could see a playground and a partial pool view from the 8th floor.

Bedroom: One king bed, decorated with a birthday balloon. The bed and bed sheets here were amazing last time we stayed at this same location, so we were excited to sleep in again. Curtains and the international outlet are all controllable from the nightstand, though it only has USB-A, no USB-C.

In-room tablet: You can request any service, including turndown, directly through the tablet instead of calling the front desk. Four Seasons always has this technology, and we really like it.

Minibar: What looks like a closet is actually the minibar, stocked with complimentary water and snacks, plus a blue Lavazza coffee machine and Jing tea. Additional snacks, chocolate, and drinks from the minibar menu are chargeable.

Closet and bathroom amenities: The closet area lets you request laundry service, plus a safe and space for luggage. There's an iron and board but no steamer, and they provide umbrellas for rental, not to keep. The slippers are Four Seasons branded and genuinely soft. A hair dryer, lint roller, shoe horn, shoe brush, and shopping bag round it out.

Bathroom: A separate door divides the sink area from the toilet and walk-in shower, which is spacious with both a waterfall shower head and a handheld option, using Diptyque products throughout. The toilet is Kohler branded. Amenities include a dental kit, shaving kit, and toothpaste, plus a slightly thinner but still thick waffle-design robe.

The tub is deep enough for two people, with bath salt provided. Wi-Fi is complimentary premium, and we tested the speed at 20 Mbps.

Turndown Service & the Damp Smell Issue

Turndown restocked the water bottles and slippers and reorganized everything neatly. But this room had a damp smell issue that the hotel tried to resolve with an air purifier, which unfortunately wasn't enough. The smell was still there the next day.

Room Tour: Premier Park View

The next day, the hotel proactively moved us to a Premier Park View room, two categories up from what we'd originally booked, and staff handled every bag for us during the transfer. Our new room was 10006, with a KLCC Park and fountain view.

Living area: Two chairs at the desk since there's so much space, a little old school looking but functional, with postcards, envelopes, and a magazine provided. International outlets, USB-A, USB-C, and HDMI are all here. The couch area is big and spacious enough to watch TV from as well.

Bedroom: A king bed, with the same excellent Four Seasons bedding we've come to expect; every KL hotel we've stayed at has been good, but Four Seasons is on another level. International outlets and USB-A are bedside, no USB-C here either. The in-room tablet in this room is a newer, smaller model for requesting turndown, food, and 24 hour chat with the team.

Minibar and closet: Same setup as the Pool Garden View room, a blue Lavazza machine, Jing tea, complimentary snacks and water, plus a lint roller for clothes (something we've never seen at any other hotel), a hair dryer, shoe horn, shoe brush, and shopping bag. Two umbrellas are available to borrow, and the iron includes a steam option even without a dedicated steamer.

Bathroom: A door connects the bedroom to a spacious bathroom with a single sink, a deep tub that fits two people, and Diptyque bath salt, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The toilet is Kohler branded with bidet functions. The shower has a strong waterfall head and a handheld option.

If you need a good travel shoe for a trip like this, we wore our Vivaia sneakers the entire time and they held up well.

Turndown Service & the Apology Letter

Turndown here also restocked the towels, slippers, and water. This time, there was an extra surprise waiting: an apology letter for the room issue, along with a fresh fruit plate.

We also requested extra amenities through the tablet: an eye mask, earplugs, a body pillow, a phone pillow, and even period pads on request. Worth taking advantage of if you're sensitive to sleeping in a new place.

Gym, Pool & Sauna

The Level 7A gym is well equipped with a view.

The pool includes a jacuzzi with a neck massage jet, and the locker rooms have both a dry sauna and a steam room, all included with the stay, something not every hotel offers for free.

Breakfast at Curate

Breakfast is included daily for two through The Edit, served at Curate. The spread covers dim sum, a noodle station, local food like roti canai, French toast, and hot food stations, plus dishes like roasted broccoli with beef bacon and a beef brisket pizza.

We'd recommend stopping by for breakfast here; it's a solid, decent spread.

Seafood Night Buffet at Curate

The Edit also comes with a $100 property credit, which we put toward the Curate seafood night buffet on Friday, priced at RM298 (about $72 USD) per person. There's a big selection: clams, squid, octopus, tiger shrimp, caviar, and pasta cooked table side on a wheel of cheese, plus a choice of sauces including chili crab and a Kam Hyong style stir fry that tasted like really good street food.

We heard this is the most expensive seafood buffet in Kuala Lumpur, and being at the Four Seasons, expectations were high. But in short, we were pretty disappointed. We're comparing this against the seafood night buffet at Four Seasons Seoul, which set a really high bar for us, and this one didn't hold up. The Lounge & Bar Trigona

We also stopped by The Lounge, the all-day restaurant and afternoon tea spot, and Bar Trigona, one of the more acclaimed cocktail bars in the city.

The Edit by Chase Travel Checklist

Going over The Edit checklist for our stay:

• Early check-in or late checkout, subject to availability: We arrived late and left early, so we couldn't fully test this.
• Room upgrade upon arrival, subject to availability: We were upgraded to a Pool Garden View room at check-in, and then moved to a Premier Park View room the next day after the damp smell issue, two categories up from our original booking.
• Daily full breakfast for two, served at Curate or in-room: Included and used daily; the breakfast spread is solid.
• $100 USD property credit (usable at the spa, laundry, or food and beverage, excluding certain restaurants): We put ours toward the Curate seafood night buffet, which we wouldn't recommend spending it on again.

Final Verdict

Service here is genuinely impressive. When we had a room issue, the team not only upgraded us two categories but sent an apology letter with fresh fruit, a thoughtful gesture that we really appreciated. The facilities are excellent too: the pool, jacuzzi, dry sauna, and steam room are all included, something plenty of hotels charge extra for or don't offer at all. And the location, right next to the KLCC LRT and steps from KLCC Park and Suria Mall, is as central as it gets in KL.

The one drawback is that the hotel feels a bit dated in places; the color tone leans dark, some furniture wobbles, and it doesn't quite have that bright, fresh five-star feel some newer luxury hotels in the city have. The in-room tablet is still a great touch, letting you request anything without picking up the phone.

Our main disappointment was the seafood night buffet at Curate. For the price, especially after our high expectations from Four Seasons Seoul's version, it just didn't deliver. Everything else about the stay, though, from the service recovery to the facilities to the location, made this a worthwhile visit.
