The JW Marriott Anaheim Resort is a 19-minute walk or 8-minute drive from Disneyland and promises luxury right in the middle of the action near the parks. We stayed in an Executive Level Deluxe Guest Room with a Theme Park View on the 10th floor, and while some aspects truly felt 5-star, others felt more like a standard upscale business hotel. Here is our honest take on the room, the executive lounge, the hidden perks you need to know about, and whether this hotel is worth the premium price near Disneyland.
The Room: A Mix of Luxury and Basics
We were on the 10th floor with two queen beds and a great view of the theme parks below. The theme park view is worth requesting when you book: watching Disneyland from your window has a genuinely magical quality to it, especially at night.
The Highlights: The bathroom is where this room really shines. It is massive, with a walk-in shower and the longest bathtub we have ever seen in a hotel room. It is the kind of bathtub that makes you want to draw a bath just because you can. Paired with high-end Aromatherapy Associates bath products, the whole bathroom experience feels genuinely 5-star. The beds are incredibly comfortable and we slept like babies both nights, which is not something we take for granted after some of the uneven sleep experiences we have had at other Anaheim area hotels.
The Drawbacks: A few things broke the luxury illusion. The slippers in the room were standard unbranded hotel slippers, the kind you find at a Holiday Inn, not a JW Marriott. Instead of an espresso machine, the room came with a Keurig. These are small details individually, but at a 5-star price point they add up and make you feel like the property is not fully consistent in its execution. The design is beautiful throughout the common areas, but the in-room amenity choices feel like they could use an upgrade.
The Executive Lounge: Skip It If You Have to Pay
We had access to the Executive Lounge through Vincent's Marriott Platinum Elite status, so this was complimentary for us. If you do not have status that gets you free access, here is our honest advice: do not pay extra for it.
The View: The outdoor balcony portion of the lounge is genuinely the best feature. It is a great vantage point for watching the Disneyland fireworks at night, and that experience alone is memorable. If you have access to the lounge, plan to be there for the 9:30 PM fireworks.
The Food: Genuinely disappointing for the brand. The evening hors d'oeuvres during our stay included corn dogs and crackers, which felt more like a basic airport lounge snack spread than what you would expect from a JW Marriott. The desserts had a strange sour aftertaste that neither of us could get past. Breakfast in the lounge was fine but unremarkable. The food experience here is meaningfully below what the Westin Anaheim's club lounge is offering just next door, and that comparison is hard to ignore.
Dining, Hidden Perks & Surprises
On-property dining is limited: one main Italian restaurant called Tocca Ferro and a rooftop bar. If you are planning on eating most of your meals on-property, that is a real constraint at a hotel of this caliber.
Parkestry Rooftop Bar: Marketed as the tallest rooftop bar in Anaheim. The vibe up there is genuinely good, with live music and a social atmosphere. The cocktails are strong and well-made. It is much better as a drinks-and-light-bites spot than a full dinner destination, so plan accordingly.
The "Secret" Coffee Perk: This one surprised us. No one at the front desk mentioned it, and we only found out because a random guest in the elevator tipped us off. Marriott Platinum Elite members and above get a free coffee every day at the on-site Starbucks. That is a genuinely useful perk if you know it exists. Always worth asking at check-in what your status gets you.
Free EV Charging: The best surprise of the entire stay. If you use overnight valet parking, they will fully charge your electric vehicle at no additional cost. We woke up to a 100% battery without even asking, without being told about it, and without any charge on our bill. For EV owners, this is a huge practical value and worth factoring into any comparison with nearby hotels.
Mall Connection: The hotel connects directly to the Anaheim GardenWalk mall. This connection is more useful than it sounds, especially given the limited on-site dining. Easy walking access to plenty of restaurants, Asian desserts, K-BBQ, and entertainment options. On our second day we grabbed Korean food for lunch and were back in the hotel within 20 minutes.
Marriott Platinum Elite: What Status Actually Gets You
If you have Marriott Platinum Elite status or higher, here is a practical summary of what to expect at the JW Marriott Anaheim:
- Complimentary Executive Lounge access (skip the food, enjoy the fireworks view)
- Free daily coffee at the on-site Starbucks (ask at check-in, they may not volunteer this)
- Complimentary EV charging with overnight valet
- Room upgrade at check-in if available
- Late checkout eligibility
The free EV charging and Starbucks credits are the two most underrated perks here. The lounge food will not wow you, but the fireworks balcony experience is genuinely worth showing up for.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Best beds and sleep quality of any hotel we stayed at in the Anaheim area
- Exceptional bathroom with a stunning bathtub and Aromatherapy Associates products
- Theme park view room is magical, especially for the fireworks
- Free EV charging with overnight valet is an unbeatable perk
- Mall connection opens up affordable dining options
- Service from housekeeping and bell staff was genuinely excellent and felt 5-star
- Free daily Starbucks for Platinum Elite members
Cons:
- Executive Lounge food is disappointing and not worth paying for
- In-room amenities (Keurig, basic slippers) feel inconsistent with the 5-star positioning
- Limited on-site dining beyond Tocca Ferro
- Pool and gym feel like a standard conference hotel compared to competitors
- Valet is the most expensive in the area at $60/night
Is It Worth It?
The JW Marriott Anaheim Resort is worth staying at if sleep quality and room comfort are your top priorities, or if you have Marriott status that unlocks meaningful perks. The beds are genuinely exceptional, the bathtub is a highlight, and the housekeeping and bell staff service was some of the most attentive we experienced anywhere in Anaheim.
Where it struggles is in consistency. At this price point, a Keurig and generic slippers feel out of place, and the lounge food does not hold up to what other luxury properties in the area are serving. If you are Marriott-loyal and want to stay within the Bonvoy ecosystem near Disneyland, this is the obvious choice and it delivers in the ways that matter most. If you are comparing it purely on amenity depth and overall resort experience against the Westin Anaheim next door, the Westin edges it out.
